“Fooood trucks! Fooood trucks! Fooood trucks!”
It may not be quite deafening, but you can just about hear the chant of food enthusiasts roving the streets of Phoenix in search of gourmet bites from the restaurants on wheels, can’t you?
food truckNearly 18 months ago, fancy food trucks started rolling down Phoenix streets, popping up in parking lots and appearing at all manner of culinary festivals. By all accounts, these un-restaurants have become as big a part of the culinary scene as, well, restaurants. There’s just something magical about ordering a high-end, specialty dish from a truck that roams the city, isn’t there?
Spurred by the Phoenix Street Food Coalition, the trucks have expanded from Food Truck Friday and Phoenix Public Market appearances to a full fledged, city-wide operation. And their success has encouraged other food truck posses – including The Streat Fleat Regime – to get in on the action.
And all this bubbling, and growing and food trucking has created a magical moment where food truck fare is available Downtown six days a week. Here’s where to go:
Monday: The newly launched Lunch at Luhrs runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Monday. It features Short Leash Hot Dogs, Hey Joe, Luncha Libre, Taste Rite, Mamma Toledo’s, Shinobu Diego and Mojo Bowl.
The fun takes place: In the alley behind the Luhrs Tower, 11 W. Jefferson St.
Tuesday: The Streat Fleat Regime hosts a food truck gathering on “the other side of the tracks” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. It features Shinobu Diego, Q Up! Barbeque, Aji Mobile, Luncha Libre and Buzz N Beez.
The fun takes place: At the historic Phoenix Seed and Feed Building, 411 S. Second St.
Wednesday: A handful of food trucks show up every week at the outdoor market on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The lineup varies, but it’s a great chance to grab some hot food while you stock up on fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies.
The fun takes place: At Phoenix Public Market, 721 N. Central Ave.
Thursday: The Streat Fleat Regime at Phoenix Seed and Feed.

Friday: Food Truck Friday has become a Downtown staple since kicking off in November 2010 and is still the place to lunch in the misters and check out the widest variety of the trucks. It features Short Leash Hot Dogs, Jamburritos, Mr. Softee, Emerson Fry Bread, Hey Joe, Mojo Bowl, Taste Rite, Pizza People, Burgermania AZ, Luncha Libre, Torched Goodness and Mamma Toledo’s.
The fun takes place: At Phoenix Public Market, 721 N. Central Ave.
Saturday: Like the Wednesday evening market, the bustling Saturday morning market hosts a crowd of food trucks from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (1 p.m. in the fall). The lineup is typically a smaller version of Food Truck Friday.
In the fall, food trucks will return to Civic Space Park during lunch.
To know where a specific truck will be, the safest bet is to check their twitter, Facebook page or website – all of which are linked above.
