Business Development Spotlight Fara Illich October 9, 2013

302-north-first-avenue-100913This summer the City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department opened the Business and Workforce Development Center at First Avenue and Van Buren Street in Downtown Phoenix. The Business Center is not only helping potential employees but is providing resources to companies that would otherwise be costly.
Despite only being in operation for three months there is good news to report.
Asurion, a Tennessee based technology protection firm, enlisted the help of the Business Center to begin filling 500 positions at their new technical support center. The Business Center hosted a recruiting event that facilitated more than 100 interviews with potential employees.
Another company, Hickory Springs Manufacturing, contacted the Business Center for help with workforce planning. The Business Center was able to provide local labor market data and assisted in talent acquisition working directly with Hickory Springs’ human resources department. Hickory Springs is relatively new to the Phoenix area and performs a wide array of manufacturing from furniture and bedding to transportation and packaging.
The Business and Workforce Development Center is located at 302 N. First Avenue and comprises 12,500 square feet of classroom style training rooms and a computer lab. If your company is looking for assistance in taking advantage of the Phoenix area workforce or you are interested in attending one of their weekly job-seeker workshops please call them at 602-256-3147 or visit phoenix.gov/econdev.
