Bars & Nightlife Sports Spotlight Fara Illich May 7, 2014

The 2014 NFL Draft begins in 24 hours and you’re officially on the clock.
Your favorite team must decide who it will select in the first round but your big choice–where to enjoy some draft beer and pound some grub while watching the football drama unfold–is equally important. Heck, probably more so.
Here are four blue chip draft picks in Downtown Phoenix:
FIRST DOWN:  Tom’s Tavern & 1929 Grill
Downtown’s official headquarters for Cardinals fans (ahem, Cardinals owner and team president Michael Bidwill also pays the bills at Downtown’s second-oldest restaurant) is throwing a tasty little soiree starting at 5 p.m. with raffle giveaways, $2.50 Bud Lights, $3 Blue Moons and $2 Pork Tacos. Plus, if you can predict the entire first round correctly, you’ll win dinner for two complements of Mr. Bidwill.

Named one of Downtown’s best-kept secrets in 2012, ICON is not only a great place to do business but it’s also a high functioning sports bar with HDTVs in the traditional bar area as well as in their comfy lounge overlooking the hustle and bustle of Adams Street. And during this Thursday’s NFL Draft coverage ICON will be serving up $3 drafts of Camelback Phoenix Ale, Four Peaks Kiltlifter, San Tan Hefeweizen, Sam Adams and Bud Light.
THIRD DOWN: Coach’s Corner Grill

The brains behind longtime Downtown pre/postgame destination Coach & Willie’s have a new bar and restaurant located on Jefferson Street, smack dab in between US Airways Center and Chase Field. Bodacious burgers and an unrivaled happy hour is Coach’s Corner’s calling card and during Thursday’s draft fans can enjoy $3 Fireball, $4 Miller Lite, Bud Light, Dos Equis and Coors Light, plus $4 house wines and special discounts for parties of 10 or more.
FOURTH DOWN: Majerle’s Sports Grill

Now things are getting serious. It’s fourth down and long, as in $4 Long Island Iced Teas served up cold and potent until 7 p.m. Pro Tip: While you’re there order Majerle’s all-world buffalo chicken wrap with “TC” sauce. You’re welcome.
Enjoy the NFL Draft and all of these delicious Downtown deals but do so responsibly.
