The Teapot is a home away from home, literally.
The new family-focused locale is part coffee shop and part playground, operating out of a meticulously restored 1906 house in the Roosevelt Neighborhood.
The Teapot doesn’t just welcome children, it was built for them — surrounded by soft grass and outfitted with play corners as well as a custom-built playhouse.
With a redbrick exterior, soft colors and succulents on the walls and tables — the home exudes warmth and charm, much like the shop’s proprietors Jonathon and Raelynn Pring.

Together, the couple set out to design a one-of-a-kind shop that caters to families, and with a son of their own — three-year-old Leyland — the Prings knew exactly what that would entail. In fact, The Teapot was inspired by their own difficulties finding a restaurant or cafe where they felt comfortable taking their son.
“We’re doing everything we can to make this a truly family-friendly place,” Jonathon said. “As far as we can tell, it’s the only place like this in Arizona.”

So far, it seems the shop is well received. On any given day, the backyard is packed with families lying on blankets in the grass, picnicking, and running around or climbing on the playhouse.
In addition to coffee and tea, The Teapot offers an assortment of cold-pressed juices plus simple fare like fresh fruit, quiche, scones and crumpets. Of course, the menu wouldn’t be complete without goldfish and apple juice for the kiddos.
The Teapot is not only a family-friendly operation. It’s family-run.
Jonathon mans the coffee bar, Raelynn handled all of the interior design, Raelynn’s mother prepares all of the food (sans the goldfish) and her father helps out too.

The duo have other ideas for the space, too, including opening it up to private events, like bar mitzvahs and birthday parties, and hosting public events like movie nights, puppet shows and yoga classes.
The Teapot is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located on 818 N Fifth Avenue.
