Since the beginning of May, people in cities all over the country have been sharing photos of their most cherished places on social media with the tag #ThisPlaceMatters.
Launched in 2008 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the “This Place Matters” campaign celebrates historic or old places that play(ed) a meaningful role in our lives and community during Preservation Month (May).

In the spirit of this social media campaign, a few members of the Downtown Phoenix Inc. team went out to take selfies in front of our favorite historic places, like the old Jefferson Hotel on Central Avenue and Jefferson Street.

As part of this national photo-sharing project, Phoenix is competing with 12 other cities to win a party thrown by This Could Be PHX and sponsored by the National Trust. The city with the most photos tagged #ThisPlaceMatters and #ThisPlaceMattersPHX — wins.

So hurry and take to Twitter and/or Instagram before May 31, sharing your favorite places in Phoenix for the whole nation to see. Here are some of our downtown favorites shared thus far.
