September 1972: Mark Spitz won seven medals at the Olympics Games, Bob Barker began hosting the Price is Right (then known as the New Price is Right) and Gwyneth Paltrow was born.
And, on September 28, 1972, the Phoenix Convention Center opened as Phoenix Civic Plaza on six city blocks. Symphony Hall opened the next day.
To celebrate four decades, countless conventions and 40 years of Symphony the Phoenix Convention Center is throwing a big street party on Friday, September 28th.
It all goes down between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. between Washington and Monroe streets (100 North Third Street, to be precise).
– Free food
– Games from the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Downtown Phoenix Partnership
– Giveaways and lots of goodies
– And, an appearance from Arizona Rattlers players Ron Jones, Marcus Pittman, Marquis Floyd, Virgil Gray and Kerry Reed
The anniversary celebration is free and complimentary parking is available during the event in the Convention Center North Garage.
