The bees are buzzing, birds are chirping and the sun is shining. It’s time to Spring Into Action.
With the arrival of warmer weather comes the season for new ideas and renewed creativity. Spring events in Downtown Phoenix encourage engagement, awareness and volunteerism. So come get involved!
Here are some of our favorite upcoming community-based events:
Valley Bike Month – Valley Metro — April 1-30
Get in shape, save money, reduce your carbon footprint and have fun by pedaling to your favorite destination instead of driving. Celebrate Valley Bike Month by tracking your two-wheel trips (to win prizes!) and become part of the growing bicycle community in Downtown Phoenix.
Bike Prom – Phoenix Spokes People — Saturday, April 4
Proceeds from this formal “Footloose”-meets-bike-themed fundraiser go toward Phoenix Spokes People, a grassroots organization working toward making downtown a more inclusive and bike-friendly place. Meet at Civic Space Park at 6 p.m. for a group ride to Phoenix Ale Brewery – then dance the night away from 7-11 p.m. Tickets cost $12 to $15 per person and $20 to $25 per couple, which includes a raffle ticket, light dessert and snack. Phoenix Ale brews on tap.
Grand Opening Weekend – Desoto Central Market – April 11-12
Celebrate the grand opening of DeSoto Central Market while supporting a great local nonprofit. Enjoy the shady patio all weekend long with vendors, live music, cocktail tastings, chef demonstrations and more. The indoor marketplace will also be open for business. A portion of proceeds benefit Release the Fear, an organization teaching life skills to at-risk youth in Arizona. The two-day event is free and open to the public.
Phoenix Urban Design Week – April 18-25
Launched by a savvy group of urban planners/dwellers/advocates, Phoenix Urban Design Week (PHXUDW) is a weeklong series of events, activities and community-building exercises. The goal is to build a and more beautiful, sustainable and livable community through activation, volunteerism and grassroots organizing. All events are listed on PHXUDW Facebook page.
2015 Serve-A-Thon PHX – HandsOn Greater Phoenix — April 18
Sign up to volunteer for one of many “done-in-a-day-projects,” supporting nonprofits, schools, municipalities and grassroots organizations throughout downtown and the Valley. From installing a rainwater harvesting system at Growhouse Community Garden to activating a vacant lot with the Urban Design Week folks – you can be a part of making the city a better place.
Catalyst Conference – Girls in Tech — April 26-28
Located at the beautiful Hotel Palomar Phoenix, this three-day conference celebrates women at the forefront of technology and startup industries. With incredible world-renowned speakers in the fields of tech, entrepreneurship, leadership and diversity – this event not only showcases international leaders but serves as a great source of local inspiration.
