2016 Center City Starr Award Winners Announced

Today, at its Annual Member Luncheon Meeting, Phoenix Community Alliance (PCA) will honor four 2016 Center City Starr Award recipients.

Since 1993, PCA has recognized men and women from the public, private and nonprofit sectors who have made outstanding contributions to advance the quality of life and further the renaissance of Central Phoenix.

Originally named the Center City Champion Award, the name was changed in 1998 to honor longtime PCA President Barry Starr, who passed away in 1997 after a life of public service. Prior to joining PCA, Starr served as a City of Phoenix police officer, was Executive Director of Valley Big Brothers, held a seat on Phoenix City Council, was an assistant to two Phoenix Mayors (Rose Mofford and Paul Johnson), and was a driving force behind the development of Steele Indian School Park.

As the membership affiliate of Downtown Phoenix Inc. since 2015, PCA connects leaders, ideas and innovation to leverage and aggregate resources: human capital, social capital and financial capital.

In addition to honoring its 2016 Center City Starr Award recipients, today’s luncheon will also mark the debut of PCA’s new logo and identity kit (see photo above). Developed in partnership with PCA Member LaneTerralever, the new logo is designed to represent the power of collaboration and celebrate the organization’s diverse membership working together to help build the city we all want.
