Just one week after a spectacular grand re-opening, the Herberger is back and on top of its game!
Tonight Clarke Riedy, the 2009 curator for the Herberger Art Gallery, opens his one man exhibit “Behind the Scenes, In the Sculpture Studio,” a rare opportunity for the public to see things they never get to see from the artist. 
Speaking with Riedy during a break from putting the finishing touches to his opening tonight, we discussed his thoughts on his work as a sculptor.  “85% of the work is never seen by the public and I wanted to show the process,” said Riedy.
Over 300 digital displays will be featured, such as pastel color compositions on slate, so the digital file becomes the medium. These drawings have qualities that explore the thought process rather than the finished product.  Riedy says, “the very best efforts of an artist have to do with the tactile response.  My finished sculpture is cast in bronze, but in the step before that I can translate my thoughts and feelings more in clay, working right from the fingertips, which allows more nuance with the subject.”
Riedy’s work has included many public art sculptures and in this new digital medium. He feels it is a wonderful technique to work in large-scale digital murals. The sculptor is currently being considered for several grants to bring his work to more public places.
Riedy says, “The art experience is not so much one of concepts as of vivid perceptions”.
Truly a statement for modern times.
The exhibit opens tonight with a reception from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and continues through Oct. 31.
