With so much going on in Downtown Phoenix this weekend the events are bound to affect traffic. Here’s a quick rundown on what motorists can expect, along with some helpful alternative routes:
AMA Supercross

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross takes place at Chase Field this weekend.  The following streets will be closed at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 14 through Sunday, January 16 at 6 a.m.:

  • Jefferson St. – closed between 3rd and 7th streets.  Drivers will be directed southbound on 3rd Street to Lincoln. 
    Helpful Tip:   
    *   This closure may effect your Friday afternoon commute!  To avoid this closure altogether, try to stay west of Central Avenue (see below for Central closure).  Take 1st Avenue south to Lincoln, or take 3rd Avenue north to Van Buren to continue eastbound travel. 
  • 4th St. – closed between Jefferson and Jackson streets.  
  • Jackson St. – closed between 7th and 9th streets.

PFChangP.F. Chang’s Rock N’ Roll Marathon, Expo and Concert

 

Also taking place downtown this weekend is P.F. Chang’s Rock-n-Roll Marathon Arizona Health & Fitness Expo at the Convention Center, and concert at CityScape.  Expect 20,000 – 40,000 attendees throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.  The following restriction is necessary to set the stage for the Friday night concert:

 

  • Central Ave. – closed between Jefferson and Washington streets from 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 14 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 15.  Drivers will be directed to take Jefferson to 2nd Street.
    Helpful Tip:   
    *   If you are traveling on Jefferson, you can avoid this closure altogether by using 3rd Avenue to travel northbound.     

MLK March

 

The Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March takes place on Monday, January 17.  The March begins at 15th and Washington streets at 9 a.m.   Participants will walk westbound on Washington to 5th Street and head north on 5th Street to Hance Park.  Police will be on-site to manage traffic control during this event.  Streets will be restricted only as participants approach and pass by.
