Business Development Family Food, Restaurants & Dining Spotlight Fara Illich January 21, 2011

jimmyjohnsDowntown’s already dense population of fantastic sandwich shops just got densier (no, not a real word) with the opening of Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches at CityScape.
Since 1983 JJ’s has been a monster hit in college towns throughout the Midwest and in recent years has grown to over 1000 stores in 39 states.  Relatively new to the Valley, JJ’s opened a Mill Avenue location in Tempe in 2009 that was quickly followed by stores in Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale the Camelback Corridor. The CityScape location is the 12th JJ’s to hit Greater Phoenix.
Jimmy John’s offers three major categories of sandwiches: Subs on 8-inch rolls, Plain Slims (just meat and cheese, ma’am) and Giant Clubs (twice the meat and cheese on 7-grain or French breads). If you have an intense carb phobia, JJ’s will wrap your sandwich in lettuce. And if you reside on the other end of the eating spectrum, the J.J. Gargantuan jams intense quantities of meats, cheeses, veggies and sauces into a mammoth French roll to accomodate the largest of appetites.
The prices are very budget friendly. I tried the #3 Totally Tuna, added cheese for 75 cents and still paid just $5.50 for a filling 8-inch sub. Other extras include hot peppers, avocado spread, chips, cookies, jumbo Kosher pickles, soda pop and extra meat.
JJ’s offers catering services and they’ll deliver to Downtown-friendly locales. Hours are M-F 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information and deliveries call 602.688.8170.
