Nearly 800 at-risk youth will experience what may be their first-and-only live theatre performance during a special “Sponsor-A-Seat” morning matinee of the Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) production of The Wiz at the Herberger Theater Center on Thursday, June 21 at 10 a.m.
herberger seatsSince 1996, more than 8,000 homeless and at-risk children and teens from all over the Valley have enjoyed VYT’s Sponsor-A-Seat shows like Annie, Cinderella, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver!, High School Musical and many more.
This year, kids from over a dozen local social service agencies, including Crisis Nursery, UMOM New Day Centers and Phoenix Youth at Risk, will discover the life-changing message in The Wiz about believing in yourself and following your dreams. Immediately following this performance, they will have lunch — catered by Subway and served by volunteers from APS — with the cast.
Donors may sponsor-a-seat for as little as $50 by downloading a mail-in form or or making an online donation by checking the box next to “I would like my gift to be made in the honor of” and filling in the blank with “SAS” to earmark their contribution.
The Wiz ends Sunday, June 24, but tickets are still available to order online or by calling the Herberger box office at 602.252.8497.
