Ok, so, Independence Day falls on a Wednesday this year. And, yes, that isn’t exactly conducive to a weekend of pool parties and barbeques and picnics under the firework-lit sky, but it’s still a holiday and, darn it, we’re going to enjoy it.
fireworksI’ll spare you all the “nothing more American than” sentiments and get into the important details. It’s time to party, who cares if it’s a Wednesday?
The Arizona Diamondbacks take on the San Diego Padres on July 4 at 6:40 p.m. and to celebrate the D-backs are giving away a commemorative stars and stripes T-shirt to the first 20,000 fans. Following the game, around 10 p.m., the roof will open for a spectacular fireworks display. Baseball + fireworks + beer + hot dogs = the perfect way to spend a Wednesday, never mind Independence Day.
If baseball and tailgating is more up your sleeve, Copper Blues is joining in on the national pastime with a Tailgate Package. The fun kicks off at 2 p.m. and includes all you can eat and drink, a ticket to the D-backs game, 3 hours of free parking, tailgate games (flip cup, beer pong, cornhole and more) and giveaways. $57.50. Details here.
The Arizona Center will be giving the first 1,000 guests with a D-back’s ticket for the July 4th game a free hot dog at Sam’s Café. There will be live music and free parking from 4 to 11:30 p.m. More details here.
If baseball isn’t really your thing, head over to Crescent Ballroom for $2.50 Pabst Blue Ribbon cans and free live music from local band Ladylike. The fun kicks off at 7 p.m.
Whatever you do, stay safe, keep hydrated and drink responsibly.
