district-first-friday-lister-shawOn Friday, August 3 from 5 to 7 p.m., District American Kitchen and Wine Bar will host an artist reception in conjunction with Downtown Phoenix’s monthly First Friday art walk. Newly installed work from two local artists will be available to view in the restaurant while the featured artists will present additional admirable pieces in the restaurant’s Wine Room.
A self-taught artist, Yvette Arteaga will showcase pieces from her newer collection that boast fun colors and shapes with a vibrant look, as well as items from her other collections that incorporate a variety of recycled materials of wood scraps, glass and old tiles. Arteaga’s work has been exhibited in galleries, festivals and design expos, and she has even developed permanent installations for commercial settings.
Another local artist, Jennifer Lister Shaw, will show off nature-inspired artwork of contemporary landscapes and abstract paintings in muted colors. A professional full-time artist, Lister Shaw specializes in paintings from small to grand scale and has created multiple pieces for an array of vendors.
During the reception, guests can mix and mingle with the artists while enjoying happy hour specials on snacks and drinks.
Happy hour specials include $5 sangria, $3 draft microbrews, and smaller prices on small plates such as: Tepary Bean Hummus featuring the tepary bean, which is native to the canyons and arroyos of southern Arizona, and served with garden fresh vegetables, lavash chips and Queen Creek Olive Oil ($4); Singh Farm Honey Wings with pickled jalapeno and cilantro lime salt ($4); Schreiner’s Bacon-Wrapped Dates stuffed with chive cream cheese and Vermont maple syrup ($4). Local DJ Jared Alan will provide the tunes.
Featured art will be available for purchase. Complimentary three-hour valet parking is available for the event. For restaurant reservations, call (602) 817-5400 or visit www.districtrestaurant.com.
