There’s a new spot of color along Central Avenue. Well, three to be exact.
The large, formerly-beige pots that sit outside the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown hotel received a colorful facelift from local artists Jeff Slim and Averian Chee. And they’ll soon be joined by three more along First Street between Adams and Monroe.
The brightly-colored pots – which feature thick, black lines – are inspired by Slim and Chee’s Navajo culture among other Native American designs.
It’s one of many public art projects coming to Downtown in the coming months, including sculptures on Adams Street, murals, bike racks, and new banners to be designed by the TBD winner of the Banner Design Contest.
As the final pots are installed, Slim and Chee are inviting the public to watch them paint the final pot on Friday, August 31 starting at 9 a.m. They will reface the pot in its current location on First and Adams streets.
