We are coming to the end of the 2013/2014 theater season in Downtown Phoenix.  Don’t worry though; here are the upcoming shows you can still catch before the summer hiatus.
Now Thru 5/18 – Venus in Fur – Herberger Theater Center: One of the sexiest, intelligent, most acclaimed new plays in recent Broadway history. The role reversal between auditioning actress Vanda and her demanding playwright/director becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex. Produced by Arizona Theatre Company.
Now Thru 5/18 – Purlie – Helen K Mason Performing Arts Center: After leaving his home and family in his youth Purlie Victorious returns to Georgia to collect his inheritance only to find there are obstacles. Through the course of his antics to get what’s rightfully his, love blooms and faith swoons. Purlie is a glorious good time musical for all good people everywhere. A Black Theatre Troupe Production.
5/20 Thru 5/29 – Life in the Theatre – Herberger Lunch Time Theater: Comedy and drama, humor and intrigue… are these things happening on the stage or behind the scenes… or both? The playwrights, actors, directors, designers and producer members of Theatre Artists Studio have many stories to tell! Please join us for a delightful collection of short plays that give us a glimpse backstage or in front of the footlights to see what really happens in the theatre.    
Now thru 5/31 – Avenue Q – Phoenix Theater: The winner of three Tony awards including Best Musical, Phoenix Theatre’s production was a runaway hit in 2011. Now, in the intimate space of the newly named Hormel Theatre, this R-rated laugh fest is truly at its best. You can’t help but be blindsided by the show’s enormous heart and relevant message of making it on your own and finding your purpose. Mature audiences only, please.
Now Thru 6/1 – Les Misérables – Phoenix Theater: Experiencing this musical on stage will touch your heart and soul in a way no film can. The tale of Jean Valjean’s unjust imprisonment and quest for redemption is set against the highly volatile political backdrop of a revolutionary period in France. At Phoenix Theatre, you’ll be closer to the barricade than ever before.
5/30/14 Thru 6/1/14 – My Fair Lady – Symphony Hall: The Phoenix Symphony partners with Phoenix Theatre for the fourth consecutive year to bring you an exciting and unique collaboration featuring your favorite musicals from Broadway. This semi-staged production highlights Arizona’s finest musicians and actors as they bring Broadway to Symphony Hall.

6/14 Thru 6/28 – Falsettos – Nearly Naked Theatre: The “jaunty” tale of Jason, Whizzer, Trina and Marvin, a seeming everyman who suddenly leaves his wife and young son to live with another guy. His ex-wife then marries his psychiatrist and their neighbors, a lesbian doctor and her cater-chef lover, all gather to make one crazy family as only William Finn can create.

6/13 Thru 6/29 – Peter Pan – Herberger Theater Center: Valley Youth Theatre’s adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s story about a boy who never grew up. The three children of the Darling family receive a visit from Peter Pan, who takes them to Never Land, where an ongoing war between Peter’s gang of rag-tag runaways and the evil Pirate Captain Hook is taking place.
