Heat Relief & Mitigation: Best Practices for Staying Safe in the Heat
While you’re soaking up the sun and the energy of the city, it’s essential to stay cool and hydrated. During the WNBA All-Star 2024 weekend, the Office of Heat Response and Mitigation will deploy pop-up tents for volunteer operations, set up large evaporative coolers at heat relief stations, coordinate water provision with staff, and actively share safety information to ensure the well-being of attendees walking around Downtown and participating in the WNBA events. Their efforts aimed to mitigate heat-related risks and enhance public safety throughout the festivities.
Here are some tips to ensure you have fun while staying safe:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Dress for the Heat: Wear lightweight, breathable clothes to stay cool. Protect your skin, head, and eyes from the sun by wearing sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen.
- Seek Shade and Cool Down: Take breaks in shaded areas or inside air-conditioned buildings, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
