The following call for artists of all practices is presented by Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel and Downtown Phoenix Partnership (“Ownership Team”) with support provided by Artlink Inc. The deadline to submit is Wednesday, May 8, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. (local Arizona time).
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The Ownership Team is interested in working with an artist or artist team to creatively address an exterior west-facing wall of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
Project: Renaissance Installation
Address: 100 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004
Request: a flat or sculptural mural or mural-like art feature created from any material fit for long term outdoor application (paint, tile, concrete, metal, other, etc.)
Budget: $25,000
Overview: Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel is embedded in the vibrant landscape of the downtown core. Offering 4-Star services and urban decor, this convenient hotel boasts an ideal location near an incredible array of attractions, including the Phoenix Convention Center, Chase Field, Talking Stick Resort Arena and the Phoenix Art Museum. With 51,000 sq.ft. of event space and the popular cowboy-inspired restaurant Dust Cutter, Renaissance is a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike to unpack their bags for work or pleasure.
The Exterior Installation: This exterior installation is intended to improve the pedestrian experience of the hotel. The selected work will be unique to Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel as it will become visually iconic of the project and further represent the vitality and culture of the urban neighborhood in which the hotel is located. It should consider the thematic schemes of the building and project— the 5 C’s (Cattle, Copper, Cotton, Citrus, Climate); respect of indigenous lands and culture; a sense of discovery and place— while keeping the general feel and tone responsive to the present and future, a contemporary metropolitan city.
Artist(s) will provide licensing and reproduction rights, and permit photography of artworks, including use in promotional materials. All reasonable effort will be made to credit the artist in promotions and when communicating with media.
