Every year you get invited to the same Super Bowl party.
It’s a potluck–so of course you bring the standard Crock-Pot mini BBQ hot dogs that everyone loves, even though the sauce is a scary combination of grape jelly and Heinz chili sauce. Folks drink from Solo cups and huddle around a 55-inch Samsung, offering their unsolicited opinions about the commercials and giggling every time Peyton Manning yells “Omaha!” By the time Bruno Mars finishes his halftime performance people are reaching their blood-alcohol limits, the dips have all congealed and the party has taken a hard right-turn toward Lametown.
It’s time to break the sad Super Sunday cycle.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton invites you to attend his Super Pool Party at Hotel Palomar’s beautiful Lustre Rooftop Garden. There you can bag some rays while watching the Big Game and help celebrate the start of the official countdown to next year’s Valley-hosted Super Bowl XLIX.
SuperPoolThis city soiree will feature all the requisite football indulgences–high definition, beer, wings, an inordinate amount of high-fives–plus special Phoenix touches like ping pong, corn bag, cabanas and oh by the way–a heated pool. There will also be appearances by the Arizona Rattlers cheerleaders (aptly named The Sidewinders) and current/alum Arizona Cardinals players Frank Sanders, Lorenzo Diamond, John Bronson, Anthony Clement and Alameda Ta’amu.
The special game-day Lustre menu includes Pick Three combo plates for $15 (+tax and gratuity):
Two (2) Mesquite-Smoked Brisket Sliders
One (1) Hops & Barley Poached Brat
Six (6) Buffalo Chicken Wings
(Combo plate also includes a side of coleslaw)
Lustre will also be selling buckets of beers for $15 in addition to its usual specialty drink menu.
Admission is free (!!!) so ride the light rail or your bike to Hotel Palomar and watch the game with Mayor Stanton in style. The party starts at 2 p.m. and kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
P.S. Wear shorts. What’s better than torturing your friends in cold places?
