Downtown Phoenix is known for a lot of things, like great food, vibrant public spaces, pro sports, family-friendly cultural destinations, innovative businesses and live music. It’s also quickly becoming known for something else — its indomitable community spirit. As waves of new students, residents and employees rush into downtown and central Phoenix, they seek nightlife, dining, quality transit options and other urban amenities — but that’s not all. They also want to connect with their community in meaningful ways. To help pair the growing number of locals who are willing to give their time to nonprofits in need, Downtown Phoenix Inc. and the City of Phoenix will host the Phoenix Volunteer Fair on Saturday, Dec. 9 at The Van Buren. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., over 75 nonprofit organizations will assemble under one roof to answer questions and enlist new volunteers for their respective causes. The Phoenix Volunteer Fair is 100 percent free and a wide range of nonprofit organizations have already registered to attend, including Local First Arizona, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Planned Parenthood, Valley of the Sun YMCA, Arizona Hemophilia Association, Artlink, Valley of the Sun United Way and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Phoenix Volunteer Fair is the perfect opportunity to survey a diverse menu of volunteering opportunities available throughout Phoenix and the surrounding areas, select those organizations that are the best fit, and begin serving the community.
