Copper State

Copper State; a high-fructose painting of summertime's caramelization. Burnt skies, sticky heat waves and a melting city build the world of desert metropolis. Phoenicians empathize with the fate of ice cream, drizzled with fire while viewing purple, pink and orange clouds of sunset. Whether you see the nostalgia of summer, the Arizona state flag or a near-future temptation, Copper State can be eaten with the eyes without it melting away in the Valley of the Sun.

Created in partnership with Valley Metro and Artlink (Spring 2026 Spotlight Artist), the Copper State mural is located on the south wall of the Central Ave./Roosevelt light rail station.

Erickson is a fine artist from Arizona known for hyperrealistic acrylic paintings. In addition to his work as a painter, he is also an award-winning animator and illustrator with several years of experience in animation, design, and storytelling.
