"Phoenix is where I found my identity, both personally and artistically. This piece is my love letter to the city, where I discovered my creative voice and started spray painting, an entirely new medium of expression to me.
Hidden throughout the piece are Easter eggs that reference earlier works, creating moments of connection between the past and present. The bobcat represents Arizona while also paying tribute to Ohio University, my alma mater, where my signature style of using humor first began to take shape.
At its core, this piece is about self-discovery, developing my artistic voice and rediscovering my love for the creative process." (Maxx Valentine, Artist)
A Phoenix-based artist and muralist, Maxx creates bold, playful work inspired by Black culture, anime, pop culture and humor. Her colorful murals celebrate identity and make room for characters and stories that aren’t always seen in traditional art spaces.
Created in partnership with Valley Metro and Artlink (Fall 2026 Spotlight Artist), Love Letter to Phoenix is on display at the south wall of the Roosevelt/Central Ave. light rail station.
