Artist Kayla Newnam was selected and commissioned by the City of Phoenix, Downtown Phoenix Inc. and Artlink to do this piece. It was painted to celebrate Downtown's festive and diverse culture and welcome visitors to the city for upcoming large-scale events, including the 2023 Super Bowl LVII, the 2024 NCAA Men's Final Four, and the 2026 NCAA Women's Final Four.

"After seven weeks and 190 feet of painting, this huge wall is done! This piece takes the viewer on a panoramic journey through the sun in Phoenix. Starting from the East end at sunrise, a coyote wakes up Downtown. As you walk along the path through various desert dwellers and landscapes, this mural follows them on their daily routines and concludes with one of our iconic sunsets on the West end. Don’t forget to turn the corner and check out all that happens at night! With owls, javelina and a king snake making an appearance as our nocturnal friends. Arizona is truly the most unique place!! This has been such a great experience working for this city along with tons of amazing help!
