Details

The Winter Solstice, now as in ancient times, marks the longest night of the year, when the sun is at its lowest elevation in the sky. The return of the sun from its most southern position in the horizon as always been of great ceremonial significance, while also serving as a celestial clock. Here in Phoenix the occasion is marked by music, poetry and crafts. The evening starts with a brief remembrance of those we have lost. Then onto the bonfire where the Grove of the Rising Phoenix will invite all to join in a community celebration of the New Year using elements of druidic rituals. A video presentation on New Grange and the Solstice tradition follows in the Great Hall. Performance by Scott Jeffers Traveler. Bar with alcohol and hot drinks will be available for purchase. $20.
