Join librarian Jesse Alexander Lopez in the Lemon Library for a book club discussion of Smile Now, Cry Later: Guns, Gangs, and Tattoos-My Life in Black and Gray by Freddy Negrete. Negrete is one of the most famous Chicano tattoo artists in the world, often credited with being the first person to tattoo the infamous Smile Now, Cry Later masks in the 1970s. His autobiography tells the story of his youth in and out of correctional facilities in Los Angeles, where he developed his signature fine line style, as well as the many struggles he faced on his unlikely path to becoming a world-recognized artist. This book club selection connects to photography exhibition Laura Aguilar: Nudes in Nature, on view in the Norton Photography Gallery. Included with general admission.
