Details
A tribute to the jazz guitarists, who have shaped the idiom over the past seven decades—through their individual performing approach on the guitar and their compositions. The guitar followed numerous pathways into the jazz idiom. In the early days, it often replaced the banjo as a comping instrument. With the coming of such artists as Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian, the guitar came to be featured as a solo instrument. In the 1950s, legendary artist Wes Montgomery brought the guitar into the forefront of modern jazz, and it became a voice heard in ensembles from trios to big bands. The SJO will feature the music of guitar masters, such as Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheney and others in creative arrangements by director/composer Mike Crotty. The SJO is pleased to feature a performance by guest artist, Chris Champion, a long-time member of the Arizona jazz community. Please join the the SJO for another great night of big band and jazz guitar music! $10 - $25.
