Details
Since opening in 2012, The Nash has aimed to create a center for jazz education and performance in the heart of Phoenix’s art district. It has become, in turn, a venue presenting and promoting new and exciting music. Over a decade ago, it also became the home for the 19-piece Superstition Jazz Orchestra (SJO), directed by multi- instrumentalist/composer Mike Crotty, featuring some of Phoenix’s finest jazz musicians. The SJO has performed a wide variety of concerts, celebrating the music of jazz’ instrumentalists and composers—the legendary ones and those whose voices are new and developing.
It is in this spirit that the Superstition Jazz Orchestra will present a concert of original music composed by Mike Crotty on Wednesday, October 8, as he pays homage to some of the most influential musicians in his own life. Legendary artists, such as Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Duke Ellington, Igor Stravinsky and others, whose music or personal interaction helped shape Crotty’s long and successful career in music and jazz, will be celebrated with new compositions, seeking to capture the character of the individual or his music. It promises to be an exciting evening of stories and musical insights…and of course, great music! $10 - $25.
