What did it mean to build a Victorian home in the middle of the Sonoran Desert? In this hour-long lecture, we will explore the architectural styles and cultural ideals that shaped early Phoenix through the historic homes of The Square. From ornate Queen Anne details to Victorian interior design, we will examine how architecture, art, and domestic life reflected the ambitions of a rapidly growing frontier city. By looking closely at the Rosson House and neighboring structures, we’ll gain a deeper understanding of how architecture tells the story of Phoenix’s early development. $5.
