Arizona Diamondbacks' 2023 Postseason Run Generated Economic Impact of $107.6M

A recent economic study commissioned by Downtown Phoenix Inc. indicates that the effects of the Diamondbacks’ postseason games significantly, positively impacted Downtown businesses’ bottom line.

The study found that home games played at Chase Field during the 2023 Major League Baseball playoffs, including three World Series games against the Texas Rangers, generated an economic impact of $107.6 million.

Key findings from the 2023 MLB postseason economic impact study include:

  • 336,370 ticketed fans attended games at Chase Field during the 2023 MLB postseason.
  • Of those ticketed fans, 3.9% t were Phoenix residents, 63.4% ived in other parts of the Valley, 11.4%lived in other parts of Arizona and 21.3% came from outside Arizona.
  • Downtown bar and restaurant revenues between October and December 2023 were up over 26% compared to those same three months in 2022.
  • Sales at bars and restaurants Downtown were up 30.7% during home playoff games compared to non-playoff game nights.
  • Among playoff game ticket holders, 17.8% visited a Downtown bar or restaurant before entering Chase Field and 28.2% visited a Downtown bar or restaurant post-game.
  • Total hotel revenue for seven home playoff games played at Chase Field was $625,422 more than the average daily collection for the 25 non-playoff game nights in October 2023. The average daily revenue per available room was $41.21 higher than the average in October 2022.

Downtown Phoenix Inc., in collaboration with the City of Phoenix Community & Economic Development Department, commissioned Arizona State University’s Seidman Research Institute to conduct the study.
