Downtown is for Everyone': How Businesses Can Support Diversity Inclusion with Unity Pledge

In 2013, local nonprofit ONE Community launched the UNITY Pledge. Ten years later, it is the largest equality pledge in the country.

Over 3,500 businesses and 20,000 individuals have signed the UNITY Pledge to advance workplace equality and equal treatment in housing and public accommodations for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ+) individuals and their allies.

June is Pride Month, and we celebrate, recognize and commemorate the contributions and history of the LGBTQ+ community.  It’s also time for business owners and individuals to sign the UNITY Pledge again or for the first time.

Downtown Phoenix Inc. (DPI) and its membership affiliate Phoenix Community Alliance (PCA) first signed the UNITY Pledge in 2018.

“Diversity and inclusion are essential values that are helping to fuel the growth and evolution of our neighborhood. It’s why DPI and PCA signed the UNITY Pledge on June 6, 2018, and why this Pride Month we are encouraging Downtown businesses to join us,” said Devney Majerle, President and CEO of DPI.

Majerle also serves on the Multicultural Advisory Board for ONE Community.

“Downtown is for everyone, and signing the Unity Pledge shows a business’s commitment to being a diverse and inclusive workplace that is open for business to everyone,” she added.

Business owners and individuals are encouraged to join us in signing the pledge today by using our link here: https://onecommunity.online/UnityPledge

It takes one minute to sign, but the commitment is long-lasting. It’s all in an effort to see an Arizona that celebrates, respects, and protects us all.
