March marks the start of spring and more importantly, the beginning of festival season in Downtown Phoenix.
With Desert Song presented by the Phoenix Chorale March 7, Viva PHX March 14, Phoenix Lights March 22 and McDowell Mountain Music Festival March 27-29 – there’s major music festivals happening every weekend of the month.
In addition to celebrating these awesome events, Downtown Phoenix Inc. (DPI) aims to highlight the efforts of local venues, promoters and musicians bringing great live music to the community year-round.
“The idea is that you can go to one event and the next day, go to a completely different event, listen to a completely different genre, and be surrounded by a completely different group of people,” said Sara Anderson, DPI director of events. “It shows the diversity.”
As the nation gears up for the summer festival season, DPI will be busy promoting Downtown Phoenix as an emergent live music hub, ready to compete on the national stage.
By highlighting the downtown music scene in a nice condensed package, Valley residents and visitors can get a sense of what Downtown Phoenix has to offer.
From the Music of Queen by the Phoenix Symphony, Hog Dogs and Jazz at The Nash to Widespead Panic and Passion Pit at McDowell Mountain Music Festival, there’s a lot to be excited for.
“We have a lot of bands traveling this time of year and they want to stop here – in this musical hub,” Anderson said. “We have a demographic that wants live music, is willing to pay for tickets and wants to see bands on a live music stage.”
