The annual Sustival (sustainability + festival) is making its downtown debut this Saturday, Feb. 21 from 4-8pm, as community members of all ages come together to (re)imagine the future of the Valley.

Hosted by the
Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives at ASU, this family-friendly Sustival will bring 30+ organizations and activities plus food trucks and live performances to Civic Space Park in Downtown Phoenix.
From local music to seed-planting demonstrations, there’s a little something for everyone at The Sustival. And though it was difficult to choose, here are the 10 things we can’t wait to see and do in no particular order.
1. The Mobile Maker Studio Debut

Local art studio
Design RePublic will debut its airstream trailer turned Mobile Maker Studio this Saturday at The Sustival. The converted trailer will inspire thoughtfulness through beautiful design and will be leading interactive discussions about decreasing our environmental footprints; giving tips for bike commuting like safe routes and work-appropriate riding attire; as well as satiating eco-curiosities through books and digital samples.
2. Screen-printing by Jake Early
Take home a Sustival souvenir poster designed by local artist Jake Early (top image), who will be live screen printing them there this Saturday.
3. Electronics, Clothes & Shoes Drive

Wear your new kicks and bring your old ones plus your unwanted electronics and clothes as Goodwill of Central Arizona and Dell will be there collecting your items.
4. Blue Bike Gang
It’s scientific. It’s fun. It’s the
Blue Bike Gang, a three-person, time traveling theater troupe that uses its performances to encourage kids to explore and engage with new technologies. See them this Saturday as they inspire the spirit of the invention in you and your kids.
5. An electric car show
The Tesla, Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt are just a few of several electric vehicles that will be on display this Saturday.
6. Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, There Is Danger and Bears of Manitou Live

These three local bands have a strong local following and for good reason. Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra has one of the grooviest sounds in town while Bears of Manitou and There Is Danger have a solid mix of folk/rock and pop/rock, respectively.
7. Bike Parade around Roosevelt Row
Bask in the warmth of the Phoenix winter and kick-off The Sustival with a bike ride through the Roosevelt Row Arts District. Starting at 2:30pm, the Phoenix Children’s Hospital will be giving free helmets to kids ages 15 and under. The bike ride leaves Civic Space Park at 3pm and returns in time for the Sustivities.

8. Seed Planting Demos & More

Kids and adults can exercise their inner green thumb with seed planting demos and how-tos for gardening in the desert. Grow Organic Kids, Valley Permaculture Alliance and more will be giving tips and tricks for growing your own food at home.
9. Reimagine Phoenix in 2050
Imagine the future in this interactive activity by the
City of Phoenix in which participants contribute to a hypothetical vision of Phoenix in 2050 with a view of the city skyline before their eyes.
10. Build Your Own Solar Oven
You’ve heard of solar energy but how about a solar oven made of old political signs? Learn how to construct your own this Saturday during a DIY demonstration.
