We love Downtown Phoenix, and we know you do too. From the hyper-local businesses that give DTPHX its authenticity to the passion-filled arts scene, there are so many things about our vibrant community to be grateful for.

So to celebrate the small moments, amazing memories and unique places that make downtown special, we launched the #DearDTPHX photo + caption contest. It rewards four lucky winners with the ultimate Downtown Experience prize pack including a hotel stay, an arts and culture membership, and $50 gift cards for dining, shopping/services and fun things to do.

How to enter

Post a photo on Instagram of something you love, miss, or appreciate about downtown. It can be a new photo, or a throwback. Then, add a creative “love letter” caption beginning with the official hashtag “#DearDTPHX.” The deadline to post is August 31, so get snapping.

We’ve had dozens of amazing submissions since the contest launched, but here are five to inspire your own.

For the dog lovers

Tilly is a true blue, well, golden, Downtowner. And although she may not be able to legally win the prize pack, she couldn’t wait to pose for a pretty photo in the neighborhood she calls home. Photo: @tillythetriever / Emily Glen

“#DearDTPHX , thank you for always being there for us on Saturday mornings for a local cup of coffee, a stroll through the city and of course a pit stop at our favorite pop-up dog park. Thank you for hosting the best events (Howl-O-Ween parade was our fav) and allowing us so many opportunities to make new friends. Thank you for being so beautiful and welcoming to these out-of-towners. You opened up your arms for us and never looked back. And for that, we will forever be thankful. Keep being beautiful, we’ll love you forever! Emily & Tilly”

“#DearDTPHX I appreciate your resilience and it reminded me of this lovely quote by Toni Morrison. ‘Definitions belong to the definer, not the defined.'”

For the nostalgic

One of the owners of Elevate Yoga in Roosevelt Row, Amber chose this striking black and white photo from from 2017, featuring a mural by Brian Boner, to share her love for downtown.

“#DearDTPHX, CommUNITY is what you are. Not a BIG city, a densely populated city yes, but most importantly a city where you can walk down the street, or into any local establishment, and you’re likely going to recognize familiar faces. There’s compassion, support, love, connection, creatives, acceptance, and so much more. I couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else ‘home’ to our small business. This specific location is where it all started for us. When I think about #dtphx @themonorchid is what comes to mind. We have so… so… many memories here and this is where our journey took off. Where our passion for this commUNITY grew into what it is today.”

For the romantics

It’s a first date, it’s First Friday, it’s exploring Roosevelt Row’s murals… There are magical memories to be made in downtown and sometimes you meet the love of your life along the way. Photo: Lexy Townsend.

“#DearDTPHX, you have a special place in my heart because I fell in love in your streets. The love of my life asked me to be his girlfriend after a night of Cibo, Valley Bar, and Melt nearly 4 years ago. We had our first kiss in DTPHX, saw The Room for the first time at Film Bar, had a romantic date at the Compass Room, ate so many donuts at the Donut Festival, went to numerous concerts and baseball games, and took pictures with the beautiful murals. We can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead for us in Downtown Phoenix. With love for an amazing city, Lexy.”

“#DearDTPHX, I personally never thought I’d live in this city or fall in love with it. Even when the streets are empty due to this global pandemic, I can feel your character. There is beauty to see on every corner and it is only growing more and more each day. My only hope is that I never forget to enjoy it. Much love, Sara”
