The vibrant and trendsetting styles of Africa are coming down the runway in Downtown Phoenix.

African Fashion Week, presented by LagosPHX, takes place Aug. 19 to Aug. 21 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.

The weekend is jam packed with events in-style perfect for any fashionista. Guests will get an exclusive look at the latest styles, a chance to shop at a pop up African-inspired marketplace, see captivating performances, eat authentic ethnic bites and more.

African Fashion Week organizers hopes the event will bring out the entire Valley starting with enthusiasts that enjoy all things Africa and welcome the community to get to know the best of Africa first hand.

For LagosPHX’s Executive Director, Emeka Njoku hosting this event in Downtown Phoenix was necessary.

“Diversity and culture plays an important role in cities,” Njoku said. “As a Downtown Phoenix culture influencer, I felt it was necessary to infuse culture into our thriving Downtown and support emerging creative brands in the process.”

LagosPhx is a nonprofit organization with a goal to create a multicultural creative community in Arizona. The organization curates shows with a focus on fashion, culture, arts and lifestyle.

Organizers said they are committed to making African Fashion Week not just the largest of its kind in Phoenix, but an ongoing exciting opportunity to promote diversity across communities that make up the city.

The weekend consists of a welcome party, a fashion pool party at the new X Phoenix, a fashion show and a afterparty. Special performances include artists Nk, Don Brighter, Praise Kusi, Blissful Gia and Sam Opoku.

Featured fashion designers include Jonesy, Classic Reclaim, Melode, Senti Designs, Sankofa, Talk Fashionss, Zoe’s African Fashion, House of Donaldson, Blazzian, and House of Zuri.

“Downtown Phoenix has done a great job in building a fun and welcoming environment, we want to add to it and hopefully help in making it a global culture and fashion destination,” Njoku said.
