After a brief but heartfelt absence from the Downtown Phoenix scene, Royal Coffee Bar has returned.
Their new location in the Carriage House at Heritage & Science Park is in the middle of a grassy square of historic buildings and just steps away from nationally acclaimed restaurants Pizzeria Bianco and Nobuo at Teeter House, as well as the Arizona Science Center.
Royal Coffee made its debut in Downtown Phoenix in 2006 at Second Avenue and Jackson Street, soon afterward they set up shop at the Phoenix Public Market. When the Phoenix Public Market Urban Grocery and Wine Bar closed in 2012, Royal Coffee was also forced to shut its doors. (Read about the new Phoenix Public Market Café here).
Royal went on to open locations at Biltmore Fashion Park—first in a large space facing Camelback Road and second inside the Union, a cluster of local shops and boutiques.
Now, coffee (and Royal) lovers need fret no more. Serving made-to-order pour-over coffee and delicious treats from specialty bakery Nami, owner Hayes McNeil has ensured that customers are not only receiving a quality cup of coffee, but also an intimate experience difficult to find amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
When McNeil isn’t downstairs roasting coffee on-site, you might find him upstairs sketching away. The space also functions as an office for McNeil’s architectural firm, Plus Minus Studio.

Royal Coffee Bar is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and may extend hours as demand increases.
