Cartel Roasting Co. is opening an all-new location in the historic Coronado neighborhood, located just northeast of downtown at 2201 N. 7th Street. It’s housed in the historic 1915 bungalow previously occupied by vegetarian restaurant, The Coronado.

After weeks of restoration, the new “Cartel Coronado” is slated to open Saturday, March 26.

“We’re so excited for our next location to be this 1915 bungalow house in the historic Coronado neighborhood,” said Cartel co-owner, Amy Silberschlag in a written statement. “We’ve done our best to preserve as much of its original look by leaving intact the façade, the charming fireplace, and many small details throughout.”

Founded in Tempe in 2007 with a single coffee cart, Cartel is family owned by Amy and Jason Silberschlag, and has developed a reputation as one of Arizona’s top coffee retailers and roasteries. Over the years, it’s grown to 11 unique locations across Arizona, California and Texas, including one on the ground floor of The Department building at 1 N. First Street.

The Coronado vegetarian café moved just a few blocks away to the old Tuck Shop location on 12th Street during the summer of 2021.

Gaining a new life as Cartel Coronado, the coffee shop will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with plenty of cozy nooks perfect for sipping and lounging inside the intimate 1,217 square foot space. There’s also an expansive front porch, and an outdoor area filled with shade trees and more seating.

“We look forward to joining and serving the amazing community in Coronado and around it,” Silberschlag said.

In addition to the new location, the company is also constructing a dedicated 12,000-square-foot production facility, including a cold brewing and canning line, a full commercial bakery, and upgraded roasting capabilities.
